AL JARDINE’S SOLO STORYTELLING TOUR 2019
From the very first song with a founding member of The Beach Boys, Al Jardine takes you on a nostalgic trip from 1961, when The Beach Boys recorded and released their first single (“Surfin’” b/w “Luau”), right up to A Postcard from California, Al’s most recent solo studio album, featuring “Don’t Fight The Sea” and the title track (in itself, a story of Al’s family moving to California in the early 1950’s).
Featuring rare photos and videos presented in slideshow form, Al, along with his son Matt Jardine and vocalist/musician Jeff Alan Ross, performs the songs and tells the stories behind a lot of the early Beach Boys hits like “Surfin’ Safari,” “Surfer Girl” and “Don’t Worry Baby.” Then Al shifts gears and talks about the influence the legendary folk band The Kingston Trio had on him before going into a medley of both versions of “Sloop John B,” the folksy original and the spiced up Al Jardine/Brian Wilson version from Pet Sounds that became a huge hit for The Beach Boys.
Al then segues into the Pet Sounds/SMiLE portion of the show that includes such classics as “God Only Knows,” “Good Vibrations” and the critics and fan favorite “Surf’s Up,” featuring one of the best vocals ever by Matt. Al concludes the set with a couple of rarities and tracks from his most recent solo album before coming back with a stunning version of “In My Room” and two of The Beach Boys biggest hits, “Surfin’ USA” and “Help Me Rhonda.”
With sell out shows and rave reviews, Al Jardine’s solo storytelling tour is really something not to be missed. Select shows also feature personal meet and greets with Al and his merch stand is one of the few places where fans can pick up very limited edition copies of A Postcard from California on CD and black vinyl.

Limited to 1,000 copies, each album also contained a limited-edition postcard signed by Al and was available at participating Record Store Day Black Friday record stores only.
A Postcard from California, originally released digitally and on CD in 2010, touches upon California’s history, natural beauty and other environmental issues and features guest appearances from David Crosby, Steve Miller, Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (America), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Neil Young, Alec Baldwin and the late great Glen Campbell along with Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. The album also includes the song "Don't Fight The Sea" (released as a 7” single on white vinyl on Record Store Day 2011 to help raise funds for Japan disaster relief) and features one of the last studio vocal recordings from the late Carl Wilson, along with new versions of The Beach Boys classics “Help Me, Rhonda” and “A California Saga” and a heartfelt rendition of The Mamas & The Papas’ biggest hit “California Dreamin’.”
Says Al Jardine, "Thank you vinyl world, it's so nice to hear A Postcard from California in this classic format--it gives my ideas and thoughts in music a whole new warmth and feeling, my songs were truly intended to be heard this way. I think this will be a great Black Friday buy but please don't fight over it though you may want to get in line early at your local record store. This Thanksgiving in addition to my family, friends and fans, I'm thankful for Record Store Day!"
